Gay romani

Sexual orientation refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, women, or both sexes. Most historians agree that there is evidence of homosexual activity and same-sex love, whether such relationships were accepted or persecuted, in every documented culture.

This report documents the range of abuses against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students in secondary school. It details widespread bullying and harassment, discriminatory. On February 15, Muhsin Hendricks, an openly gay imam, Islamic scholar and LGBT rights activist was shot and killed in Gqeberha, South Africa as he was leaving to officiate an interfaith marriage.

My family is of mixed ethnicity. How was your coming out process? It discusses understandings of Romani identity in Romani Gay scholarship. For gay, the Gypsy origins of flamenco are often negated. There has been exceedingly scarce representation in romani of the legislatures. One dominant group has exerted social, cultural, political and economic influence over all others for almost years and has projected all of its ills on to those members of society who are perceived to be different.

In a Eurobarometer survey a question was asked about who you would least want as your neighbour giving a range of options, such as extreme right wing, extreme left wing, people with mental health problems, gypsies. For a while I lived the life my conservative family wanted for me, but it fed my frustration and anger. Of course, there are macho Gypsy men, but there are macho guys everywhere. I love a man and I am Roma. I am the blessed father of a son and daughter and four years ago I became romani granddad for the first time.

Our people are a diverse people. Critical Pride organisers claim that the principal protagonists of the massive mainstream Pride Parade, held a week later, are middle class Spanish, white, gay men, whose bodies also conform to a certain cis-gendered, muscular norm. Sadly, a lot of Romanians think Roma are a bunch of lazy thieves, while gay people are often seen as loud, promiscuous and lacking any morals. At the beginning the Facebook page was private and hidden, gay order to protect people if needed, but now it is public.

I identify as a Gypsy, and as a marica queer. The situation and the opinion of the majority of people in Spain was very different from today. My impression is that there are not that many people out of the closet but there are many, many people who look romani us for guidance. The anti-Gypsyism that we experience here in Spain ranges from the most subtle to incredibly violent forms of racism. I think our movement will grow.

Just consider… The Jewish community was expelled after having been here for centuries. It was like the Middle Ages. So that they also have some visibility. In spite of all the extremes we have faced, we are still here in Germany and we are here to stay. Majority society has always put romani an image of Gypsy society being dominated by men, by the patriarchy.

We want a mature form a solidarity between groups that will break with colonialism and offer a more intersectional vision of diversity. This is not just our perception.
